Volunteer with us

Ensuring that MR Kioloa and its rescue vessel Kioloa 20 have enough qualified volunteers presents a continuing challenge to the base and its small supporting community. In meeting this challenge MR Kioloa is seeking new volunteers to train as radio operators and boat crew. We’re on the lookout for people from a range of backgrounds aged 16 years or older who are keen to learn new skills in water safety, and experience the adventure of search and rescue aboard Kioloa 20. Click on the picture at left for application details.
You don’t need a marine background to apply! Volunteers at MR Kioloa come from fields as diverse as accounting, engineering, electrical, plumbing, marketing, teaching and more. “And its not just for retirees”, says Louise Andrews. “Training times and rosters are tailored to fit the busy lives of young people and working families”.
If you already have some boating skills, that’s great. However, don’t worry because we can train you in all the skills required including gaining your NSW Maritime Boating Licence, Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency, first aid certificates, search and rescue techniques, up to higher qualifications in marine navigation. Take it at your own pace in a supportive hands-on environment.
Training is only a part of the experience at MR Kioloa. Continuing in the spirit of its founding members the late Bill Rowley and Fred Noble, MR Kioloa is a group of community minded people who, while dedicated to preserving lives on the water, know how to have a great time on land.
The MR Kioloa volunteers welcome visitors and are delighted to show you around their base including a tour of the radio room and their wonderful rescue vessel Kioloa 20.
